Content created with AI is often obvious
AI for textual (non rich media) content generation is both fantastic and dangerous at the same time. It’s fantastic insofar as it offers huge productivity gains over historically manual content creation methods, and dangerous in that it gives us a false sense of confidence that creating content is easy and we can do more of it.
Creating content IS easy with AI – but it’s not always high quality content – and it generally won’t be rewarded by Google and other search engines unless you take the time to customise it. Indeed AI-generated content has created an enormous mountain of “me-too” content “fluff” which, when encountered by Google, is often skipped and may not even get indexed.
“Appropriate use of AI or automation is not against our guidelines. This means that it is not used to generate content primarily to manipulate search rankings, which is against our spam policies”
Customised Content Generation
Tools like Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and ChatGPT learn more about you as you use them. What this means is that using them well teaches them more about your business, its preferences and its served audiences.
When you do this, and if your prompting skills are honed, the content it generates will be closer to the final quality draft you seek. Use them poorly and they’ll fail to generate the quality of content you need, making lots more work for you to do to get it right each time..
Teach it
In addition to their learning abilities, these tools have excellent customisation capability from the outset. For example, you can tell them about your preferred writing style and tone, your business values, your readability preferences, your persona targets and their pain points, your value propositions and many other aspects of the business.
To learn AI and remove the possible intimidation of using it, it’s fine to jump in and play. However, when using it for your business, learn how it can be tailored and nurtured to your business needs in the best ways possible.
Do this once, adopt a structured prompting model and AI will only get better and better for you. A structured way to engineer prompts is included in our Advanced SEO course.
